We know not to expect miracles from these new experiences, any more than we should expect no change following a physical, intellectual, and emotional experience as radical as the camp experience will be for most campers. New knowledge, skills, and associations will force campers to see and respond to their world differently. As much as the valley and urban communities come to Camp, so does the Camp experience and spirit go to these communities.
— Kenneth M. Willmarth, Stanislaus County 4-H Youth Development Advisor, Emeritus

Camp Sylvester working in cooperation with the Stanislaus County Farm Bureau is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that sustains educational and recreational camp facilities for use by youth organizations, community groups, universities, families, weddings, and special events alike. Camp Sylvester mission is to provide the best possible camp experience at the lowest possible price.

Attending an overnight camp is often a positive life changing experience for young people, Camp Sylvester is grateful to provide services to communities throughout California and beyond. The majority of campers who visit annually would be unable to experience an outdoor adventure program if Camp Sylvester were unable to maintain its' low cost non-profit operating structure.

Mission & Purpose

Low Barrier Access

Camp Sylvester's unqiue operating structure allows Camp to lower barriers and the financial burden for campers from low income and rural communities. The cost to attend Camp Sylvester is often 50%-75% lower per camper when compared to like facilities.

All youth development programs whom visit Camp Sylvester annually are volunteer based non-profit organizations. Camp Sylvester succeeds in providing facilities and resources for trained volunteer based organizations to operate their own youth development and adventure programs in a safe, well maintained environment.
