About Camp Sylvester

A Sierra tradition since 1927

 

Campers have been seeking adventure at Camp Sylvester for over 95 years.

Camp Sylvester is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that sustains year-round educational and recreational camp facilities for use by youth organizations, spiritual retreats, community groups, universities, families, weddings, and special events alike. Camp Sylvester mission is to provide the best possible camp experience at the lowest possible price.

Founded in 1927 by Stanislaus and San Joaquin County farmers, its first incarnation was as a “pitch your tent” camp for farm groups and youth clubs. Named after Henry Sylvester, a longtime 4-H Youth Advisor.

In 1936 Stanislaus County Extension Service Office bought out San Joaquin’s interest and Stanislaus Extension held sole ownership until the mid 1940’s. In 1946 the Stanislaus County Farm Bureau took ownership of Camp Sylvester and shortly after in the late 1940’s began constructing permanent cabins for year-round use.

The grounds consist of nearly 10 acres of private use forest lands with (31) cabins and buildings. Facilities includes multiple dining halls commercial kitchens, recreation building, group sleeping cabins, outdoor theater, outdoor dining area, sports areas and much more!

Camp Sylvester is located in the Pinecrest Lake Recreation Area and a short 10-15 minute walk, on a paved trail, from the Pinecrest Lake beachfront.

Camp Sylvester provides year-round accommodations for groups of (15-195) total persons.

Camp Sylvester provides services, accommodations, and privileges regardless of race, color, creed, sex, religion, handicap, age or national origin and is operated under special use permit within the Stanislaus National Forest.
